I am delighted to be able to present you with the Newcastle Virtual School 2015-16 Annual Report which I am sure you will find an interesting read. It has now been published on the Services to Schools portal and the City Council’s website at the links below. Please feel free to share it with others to whom it might be of interest.
Significant numbers of Looked After Children (LAC) face considerable personal challenges linked to family disruption and early trauma that adversely impact upon their educational progress and attainment. Despite these challenges many of our children do exceptionally well and it is really pleasing to see improvements in the outcome such as the numbers of LAC achieving a C grade or higher in both GCSE maths and English increasing from 10% in 2015 to 28% in 2016.
Equally the Virtual School (VS) is demonstrating on going improvements in service delivery such as the number of LAC with an up to date Personal Education Plan (PEP) having increased further to 91%. The VS is also embarking upon an Attachment Aware Schools action research project in collaboration with a number of of our schools.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to you and your staff for the significant contribution you have made to these improvements and are very much looking forward to continuing to develop our collaborative working towards ensuring our children have the best opportunities to achieve their educational potential.
